Washakie County Public Health is a state/county agency with the mission "to protect and enhance the health and well-being of all citizens."   We do this by offering nursing services in  clinic settings, to individuals, families or groups.  Services are available to all citizens of Washakie County regardless of race, national origin, age, religion, color, sex, disability, or ability to pay.  Fees are assessed  for some services on a sliding scale and can be paid for by  Medicare/Medicaid, private insurance, or individually.  Donations are appreciated.

Primary goals of Public Health are to:

bullet

Promote healthy behaviors

bullet

Prevent the spread of disease

bullet

Inform and educate people about health issues

bullet

Help people find the services they need

bullet

Work with others in the community to identify and solve health concerns

One risk factor for our youth is teen pregnancy.  Washakie Family Planning, sponsored by Washakie County Public Health, provides services to help prevent unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

The Family Planning staff members develop a rapport of open, confidential communication, while encouraging family and parental involvement, to educate sexually active teens.  They also work to heighten awareness and responsibility of male partners, as well as acting as advocates for youth in potentially dangerous situations.

In addition, Washakie County Public Health utilizes the Best Beginnings and Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) programs to lessen the impact of teen pregnancy on both the babies and teen parents.  These programs were developed to institute a comprehensive, coordinated, community-based system of prenatal and parenting services.  This assures early and continued medical care and coordination of services appropriate for the pregnant woman and her family.  Services available include:

bullet

Financial assistance for eligible women

bullet

Referrals to appropriate community resources

bullet

Educational materials related to pregnancy and child care

bullet

Expectant Parent Classes

bullet

Other Public Health services include:
